Adult Swim
The tracks in Danger Doom's LP The Mouse and the Mask, as well as their EP Occult Hymn, use plenty of samples from the talented voice actors on the Cartoon Network's Adult Swim block of shows. Adult Swim, which airs in the wee hours of the morning when the kids have gone to bed, provides cartoons for the adult sense of humor. Many of the shows are parodies of traditional Saturday morning animated fare.
The following shows have found their way into Danger Doom recordings:
Aqua Teen Hunger Force
Aqua Teen Hunger Force stars Meatwad, a wad of meat; Frylock, a floating box of fries; and Master Shake, a milkshake. It is one of Adult Swim's most perennially popular shows.
The song A.T.H.F. on The Mouse and the Mask is a direct reference to Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Meatwad, Frylock, Master Shake and the gang also appear in numerous sound clips throughout the album.
Space Ghost Coast to Coast
This was the first show in the Adult Swim mode, making its debut on the Cartoon Network in the 1990s. It stars Space Ghost, a superhero-turned-talk-show-host. One of the funniest supporting characters on the show is a toothy cat named Brak.
Brak shows up on the album's opening track, El Chupa Nibre, asking the listener, "Why did you buy this album? I don't know why you did, you're stupid."
Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law
Harvey Birdman is a retired superhero, along the lines of Hawkman, who is now a practicing attorney. Many of his foes and friends on the show come from old Hanna-Barbera cartoons, which featured a character named Birdman.
Harvey makes it onto the song Basket Case (no relation to the Green Day song of the same name). He asks a jury to forgive MF Doom and Danger Mouse for having been born in the 1970s. Myron Reducto, the prosecutor, tries for a conviction.
Sealab 2021
This show parodies the 1960s cartoon Sealab 2020. Crew members such as Derek "Stormy" Waters, Dr. Quentin Q. Quinn, and Marco Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar Gabriel Garcia Marquez, explore the aquatic depths and have strange conversations with one another that go nowhere.
Dialogue from Sealab 2021 opens and closes the song Black Debbie. The song begins with an exchange between Marco and Stormy and ends with Marco talking to Quinn.
